SUBMISSIONS CLOSED! THANK YOU EVERYONE!
dotART and Exhibit Around APS associations, promoters of Trieste Photo Days festival, are launching a free open call to celebrate Pier Paolo Pasolini‘s cultural and iconographic legacy through photography on the occasion of the centenary of his birth.
Pasolini Photo Days 2022 project will be a tribute that will combine photography, literature, re-mediation and moments of encounter, in the international context of Trieste Photo Days and the Photo Days Tour (the setting for events taking place outside the city during the festival).
The best photos collected through the open call will flow into a double photographic volume from which a collective exhibition will be taken in tribute to the figure of Pasolini, an intellectual and total artist of the twentieth century.
Pasolini Photo Days 2022 is realized with the contribution of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, together with CRAF – Centro Ricerca e Archiviazione della Fotografia, Fondazione Pordenonelegge.it and the Municipalities of Cormons, Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Sacile, San Daniele del Friuli and Sesto al Reghena.
The two Volumes
The open call is aimed at the production of two photographic volumes dedicated to Pasolini:
Pasolini Photo Days 2022
Edited and introduced by Professor Enrico Medda, the volume aims to (re)read through photography some Pasolini themes that have elements in common with mythology and the ancient world.
Pasolini Photo Days 2022
The Unmasked Face
Edited and introduced by the writer Paolo Patui, the volume will include photos inspired by the iconography of Pasolini’s cinema, in particular the faces and close-ups.
Both volumes will include, in addition to the works collected and selected through the open call.
Selections are open from 29 July to 11 September 2022 on my.exhibitaround.com. Registration is completely free, as is participation in the project in case of selection.
The best of the two volumes will be displayed in a cycle of group exhibitions as part of the Photo Days Tour in Italian north-eastern cities Cormòns, Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Sacile, San Daniele del Friuli, Sesto al Reghena and Trieste. A preview of the project will be presented at the end of October 2022 at Trieste Photo Days and will continue with exhibitions and meetings until March 2023.
As part of the Pasolini Photo Days project, group photographic shootings will be promoted at places linked to the Friulian season of Pier Paolo Pasolini. The exits will be guided by a “mentor”: a professional photographer able to train and stimulate the participants to produce photos in line with the theme of the project. Pasolini’s scientific consultants, writers and experts will be involved during the outings to provide the historical-iconographic context of the place.
Some talks with scholars are scheduled, also in the places that will host the exhibitions, both to present the exhibition and the volumes and to offer the public opportunities for further study.
The contribution of Professor Enrico Medda as scientific consultant, both in the critical introduction of the volume and in the presentation conferences, will offer the public food for thought and in-depth analysis on Pasolini in an absolutely new interpretation, with references to mythology and photography. and to the Pasolini opera. Similar speech for the contribution of Paolo Patui, more focused on the filmmaker Pasolini.
